The Bagri Foundation London Indian Film Festival’s GURU LOUNGE presents an invaluable guide to the ever-burgeoning Indian and South Asian film industries. A must for film industry professionals interested in co-production, acting in or shooting their next project in India.


Legal and Tax Surgeries

Lee Stone (Lee & Thompson LLP) will hold a series of individual, 20 minute, Legal and Tax surgeries to discuss your film project. Sign up and come prepared!

Lee Stone is a partner in the Film Group of the leading UK entertainment law firm, Lee & Thompson LLP. He has been instrumental in developing the firm's expertise in advising the Indian film industry and is widely recognised as the go-to-lawyer for Indian film producers, financiers and distributors wanting to do business in the UK, as a result of which Lee is also regularly instructed by British companies wanting to collaborate with entities from within the Indian film industry.

 Writing Scripts That Work in India and the UK 

TUE 19 JULY | 10.00 – 11.30 | BFI SOUTHBANK - BLUE ROOM

This event features a panel discussion that delves into the art of screenwriting and the different approaches, sensibilities and considerations in terms of writing for UK/European vs Indian markets. It will look at how scripts commonly get commissioned in both countries, as well as exploring the possibilities of new script collaborations between the UK and India.

Confirmed panelists currently include writer-directors Leena Yadav (Parched) and Shefali Bhushan (Jugni) whose films are in the 2016 LIFF programme alongside prolific filmmaker and writer Shekhar Kapur (Elizabeth, Elizabeth: The Golden Age), Anjum Malik, a UK-based writer and Deborah Sathe, a film commissioner for Cinestan who is also based in the UK. 

This panel will be chaired by Cary Rajinder Sawhney, Director, London Indian Film Festival.

Effective Post-Production & VFX in the Global Village

WED 20 JULY | 10.00 – 11.30 | BFI SOUTHBANK - BLUE ROOM

This session provides an opportunity for filmmakers to connect with representatives of key post production picture, sound, and VFX houses, and to hear from experienced filmmakers and executives about their experiences posting in the UK and India.

Panellists include: Cristina Aragon - Managing Director, 5A Studios (sound), Aseem Baja - Cinematographer - Parched, Priyanka Balasubramanian - VFX Producer for BOT vfx, Gisela Evert (Berberian Sound Studio, Locke, Submarine) - Post-Production Supervisor, Antelope Entertainment.
